The Brooklyn-Kiev stevedoring company intends to build a grain terminal behind the Illichivsk seaport’s berths Nos. 7, 8, and 9 and reconstruct the berths. The total investment in the project will be USD 200 million. The project was presented by the head of the investor company, Yurii Hubankov, the press service the Illichivsk seaport announced.

"Brooklyn-Kiev notes that it has its own know-how in the handling of goods, which allows it to handle goods at the intensity of 24,000 tons per day. We have patents for this. The technology that we are currently using is the only one of its type in the world. Foreign companies are already approaching us because this method makes it possible to create universal grain terminals. This method makes it possible to handle containers, metal, and grain," Hubankov said.

The Illichivsk seaport’s Director Serhii Kryzhanovskyi noted the importance of universalization of the port within an area from the berth No. 5 to the berth No. 10.

"There is a possibility to move toward the borders of the container terminal, which, by the way, has been transformed into a universal complex – the 3rd and 4th berths will continue to handle containers, we are retooling the 5th and 6th berths for bulk cargo. Therefore, universalization of the port in the segment from the fifth berth to the 10th berth is so urgent that virtually no cargo owner is now experiencing problems it is work with the Illichivsk seaport as a state stevedoring company. If the stevedore is a private operator, it has greater capabilities and flexibility to develop in this aspect," Kryzhanovskyi said, commenting on the project.

As reported, Hubankov announced during the Black Sea Economic Forum in Odesa in October 2015 that Brooklyn-Kiev intended to implement a project involving a grain terminal in the Illichivsk seaport. According to him, funding from the EBRD could cover half the cost of the project and the company itself could finance 30-40% of the cost. The general director of Brooklyn-Kiev believes that it could take 1.5-2 years to develop the project and obtain all the necessary permits and construction work could take the same period.

The Brooklyn-Kiev stevedoring company manages the Grain Harbor berths at the Odesa seaport. The company handled 8.059 million tons of cargoes in 2015, which is 4.6% more than it handled in 2014.
