Russian seaports on the coast of the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea handled 162.8 million tons of cargo in the period of January-July 2024, down 7.4% compared with the same period in 2023.

The Russian Association of Commercial Seaports announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports, citing the publication PortNews.

According to the statement, in the period of January-July 2024, the volume of transshipment of dry cargo in the Russian seaports on the coast of the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea decreased by 9.6% to 75.6 million tons, and the volume of transshipment of liquid cargo by 5.4% to 87.2 million tons.

In terms of individual ports, the port of Novorossiysk handled 99.4 million tons of cargo (+3.3%), the port of Taman 15.8 million tons (-37.5%), the port of Tuapse 12.4 million tons (-16.9%), the port of Kavkaz 12.7 million tons (-1.9%), and the port of Rostov-on-Don 8.9 million tons (-6.9%).

In general, the volume of cargo handled by Russian seaports in the period of January-July 2024 decreased by 3.1% year-on-year to 521.8 million tons. They handled 257.8 million tons of dry bulk cargo (-2.9%), including 112.6 million tons of coal (-11.4%), 42.6 million tons of grain (+6.5%), 32.1 million tons of containerized cargo (+10.8%), 25 million tons of mineral fertilizers (+26.5%), 11 million tons of ferrous metals (-15.7%), and 6.1 million tons of ores (+5.3%).

The ports also handled 264 million tons of liquid bulk cargo (-3.4%), including 160 million tons of crude oil (-0.9%), 77.5 million tons of petroleum products (-9.8%), 20.6 million tons of liquefied gas (+2.6%), and 3.7 million tons of food cargo (+7.4%).

During this period, these ports handled 411.6 million tons of export cargo (-3.1%), 24.2 million tons of import cargo (+6.1%), 40.1 million tons of transit cargo (+3.3%), and 46 million tons of cabotage cargo (-12%).

As previously reported, the cargo turnover of Russian seaports on the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea basin decreased by 8% to 134 million tons in the period of January-June 2024.

In total, Russian seaports handled 448.6 million tons of cargo in the period of January-June 2024 (-3.1% compared with the same period of 2023).

Ukrainian seaports handled 60 million tons of cargo in the period of January-July 2024.
