The Chernivtsi airport has begun reconstruction work on its runway. The cost of the reconstruction work is UAH 17.7 million. Mayor of Chernivtsi Oleksii Kaspruk announced this on his Facebook page.
"Finally, after completion of the tender procedures, reconstruction of the runway has begun. LLC Evrodor is performing the work. The value of the deal following the tender is UAH 17.7 million," the mayor of Chernivtsi wrote.
About 48,000 square meters of runway is to be restored. The airport currently operates one flight per day to Kyiv, as well as charter flights. After completing the reconstruction of the runway, the Chernivtsi airport will be able to receive airplanes with low-mounted engines like Embraer-190 and Boeing 737, which will allow it to attract new airlines and open new routes.
Regular flights to the Chernivtsi airport resumed in July this year. Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) has launched flights on the Kyiv-Chernivtsi route. The airline also received permission to operate flights from Chernivtsi to Tel-Aviv, Bergamo, and Istanbul.
