The Chornomorsk seaport intends to transship almost 24 million tons of cargo by the end of 2019, breaking its record for cargo handling volumes.

The Ukrainian Seaports Authority (USPA) announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.

“Considering that 18,809,000 tons have already been handled in the first nine months of this year, the forecast volume of cargo transshipment in 2019 is 23,900,000 tons. This is expected to set a new record for cargo transshipment in the entire history of the port,” the port authority’s head Viacheslav Voloshin said.

According to him, the Chornomorsk seaport has maintained a steady trend towards an increase in cargo transshipment in recent years. For example, 18.8 million tons of export-import cargoes were handled in the port in 2016, about 21.1 million tons in 2017, and 21.5 million tons in 2018.

The port authority notes that the current transshipment record of 19.8 million tons was set in 1985.

As the CFTS portal reported, the volume of cargo transshipment at the Chornomorsk seaport was 2.428 million tons in August, which was 39.5% or 688,000 tons more than the volume in the corresponding period of 2018.
