Deputies of the Mykolaiv city council have decided to establish a municipal enterprise called Mykolaiv Airport. Thus, ownership of the airport has been completely transferred from the regional authorities to the municipal authorities, the press service of the Mykolaiv Mayor’s Office announced.
A representative of a potential investor in the airport - Ihor Babiar’s RDS Group - also addressed the council’s deputies.
"A group performed a preliminary analysis of the current state of the facility and identified the major shortcomings that need to be addressed in order to launch it into operation. Among them is the failure of its infrastructure to meet modern requirements, its inability to receive certain types of aircraft, the low level of security at the airport, and the absence of permits," Babiar said.
In the first phase, the company sees its main tasks as reconstruction of the airport’s runway and obtainment of all the necessary certificates.
Mykolaiv’s Mayor Yurii Hranaturov said that the RDS Group contributed to the revival of the Kyiv airport (Zhuliany), but he did not specify how.
As reported previously, the Mykolaiv city council agreed in August to set up a working group for assuming ownership of the Mykolaiv International Airport from the regional authorities.
