The volume of container transshipment at the Odesa seaport increased by 15.7% to 70,800 TEU in the period of January-February this year, compared with the corresponding period of last year, but the total volume of cargo traffic through the port reduced by 11.1% to 3.786 million tons. This is stated in data from the Ukrainian Port Authority.

The volume of transhipment of liquid bulk cargo through the port reduced by 57.6% to 417,000 tons in the period of January-February. In particular, the port processed 148,000 tons of petroleum products (an 81.3% reduction), 41,000 tons of oil (a 2.8-fold increase), 142,000 tons of chemical goods (an 18.3% reduction), and 85,000 tons of crude oil (none previously).

The volume of transhipment of dry bulk cargo through the port reduced by 0.8% to 1.381 million tons in January-February, compared with the corresponding period of 2015. Grain accounted for most of this type of cargo (1.237 million tons, which represents a 6.2% increase).

The volume of transhipment of unitized cargo through the Odesa port increased by 5.5% to 1.988 million tons in January-February, compared with January-February 2015. In particular, the volume of transhipment of rolled metal increased more than 14-fold to 716,000 tons. The container volumes mentioned above belong in this category of cargoes. Expressed in weight, the volume of transhipment of containers increased by 18.1% to 983,000 (the number of containers increased by 19.7% to 47,000 tons).
