"The blowing up of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant by the Russians is a blow to global food security, which the enemy wants to undermine because this disaster will affect the irrigation system in southern Ukraine," the Office of the President of Ukraine’s head Andrii Yermak said, adding that the Russians need hunger in countries around the world.
According to Yermak, the destruction of the hydroelectric power plant’s dam by the Russians should be classified as ecocide.
"The Russians will be responsible for the possible deprivation of drinking water to people in the south of the Kherson region and the Crimea, as well as for the possible destruction of some settlements and the biosphere. Their actions also pose a threat to the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant.
"The destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant is the biggest man-made disaster in the world in recent decades, which is killing the environment and will negatively affect the lives of hundreds of thousands of people in years to come.
"The insane goal of stopping the Defense Forces' advance and avoiding defeat and disgrace drives the Kremlin criminals. They are ready to do anything to raise the stakes in this war," he said.
As reported earlier, the Russian occupation forces blew up the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant in the early hours of 6 June. The hydroelectric power plant was destroyed completely by the blowing up of its engine room from the inside.
