DTEK Holding, which is owned by businessman Rinat Akhmetov, has begun importing coal of the gas group from Poland. A representative of the DTEK Zakhidenergo power generating company announced this to the LigaBusinessInform publication.

According to the representative, about 15,000 tons of Polish coal was delivered to the Burshtyn thermal power plant in mid-February. About 11,000 tons was delivered to the Dobrotvorsk thermal power plant. Both thermal power plants are part of the DTEK Zakhidenergo power generating company and operate on coal of the gas group.

As reported earlier, Ukraine faced an acute shortage of anthracite coal in autumn last year because of the military hostilities in the Donbass. Seven of the 14 thermal power plants in Ukraine run on anthracite coal and the others run on other types of coal. Ukraine, including DTEK, began importing coal from other countries because of the shortage.

Russia blocked deliveries of thermal coal to Ukraine in late November. Deliveries have not yet resumed.
