DP World is considering the possibility of investing in development of the Odesa seaport, Infrastructure Minister Volodymyr Omelian announced in an interview with Bloomberg.

"I would like to bring the negotiations with China Shipping and DP World to a successful conclusion. We have begun discussing preliminary possibilities with Hutchison Port Holdings Ltd. There is a clear understanding that the logistics in the Ukrainian ports does not meet modern requirements. Many ports have to be rebuilt," Omelian said.

He did not disclose details of the talks.

The minister added that Ukraine would try to become a transit hub for deliveries from countries in the Persian Gulf, Asia, and China to Scandinavian countries and the Baltic States.

In addition, the Cabinet of Ministers is negotiating with several international companies and seeking investors in modernization of not only ports, but also railways and river transport.

The government of the UAE owns DP World. The company owns 77 port terminals and logistics hubs in 40 countries. It reported revenues of USD 3.97 billion and a net profit of USD 970 million for 2015.
