The Lviv international airport has begun handling international freight flights. The first flight departed from Lviv to the capital of Latvia on April 3.
The Lviv international airport announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.
"We have launched an international cargo transport program! The first flight on the Lviv-Riga-Lviv route was performed today. Cargoes belonging to the Ukrposhta company are transported by an An-26 aircraft with the registration number UR-CSK belonging to the Ukrainian transport airline Eleron," the Lviv airport said.
According to the airport, it also handled domestic cargo flights performed for the Nova Poshta postal company along the Kyiv-Lviv-Kyiv and Lviv-Dnipro-Lviv routes in 2019.
The airport plans to "broaden its horizon" and increase the number of destinations to which it handles international cargo flights.
As reported, Ukrposhta began delivering mail to Riga from Kyiv on the aforementioned aircraft in the second half of March. “We will deliver parcels to 10 European countries and part to the United States through Riga,” Ukrposhta’s head Ihor Smelianskyi said.
The Eleron company’s An-26 aircraft with the registration number UR-CSK is famous for being involved in the filming of the Hollywood action movie, The Expendables III. The aircraft was painted like a shark for the filming of the blockbuster movie. Nova Poshta used the same plane for its domestic cargo flights.
