A loading record of 2,052 grain wagons and grain cargoes in a single day was set on 31 October, the Ukrzaliznytsia public railway company announced.

According to the company, on average, 1,819 grain wagons were loaded per day during October 2016, which were 62 wagons more than the number in the corresponding period of 2015.

In total, 51,500 grain wagons were loaded in October 2016. These wagons transported 3 million tons of cargo. In addition, 45,400 grain wagons were loaded with export grain in seaports and more than 6,000 wagons were loaded with domestic grain. The number of wagons loaded with export grain in seaports in October 2016 was 1,464 wagons per day, which are 77 more than the number that was loaded per day in the corresponding period of 2015.

According to Ukrzaliznytsia, the company currently has a fleet of 13,476 grain wagons, which are 535 more than it had last year. An additional 4,352 grain wagons have been repaired. In total, Ukrzaliznytsia plans to repair 4,062 grain wagons in 2016.

As reported earlier, Ukrzaliznytsia previously estimated the demand for grain wagons at 2,500-3,000 per day. In addition, the turnaround time of grain wagons has been reduced by almost one day – from 10.8 to 9.9 days – this year. This has allowed an additional 300 wagons to be delivered for loading per day, the company said.
