Ukrainian transport companies transported almost 1.73 billion passengers in the period of January-August 2021, which is 4.1% more than the number of passengers that they transported in the same period of 2020.

This is stated in data from the State Statistics Service, the CFTS portal reports, citing the Interfax Ukraine news agency.

The passenger turnover of Ukrainian transport enterprises was 41.1 billion passenger-kilometers in the period of January-August 2021, which is 26.8% more than their passenger turnover last year.

According to the statistics, 55.4 million passengers were transported by rail (including the number transported by suburban electric trains) in the period of January-August 2021 (a 21.6% increase compared with the number in January-August 2020) and 718 million by road (1.2% increase).

The number of passengers transported by air increased by 90.7% to 5.9 million in the period of January-August 2021, compared with the corresponding period of 2020.

In addition, according to the State Statistics Service, 256.7 million passengers used trams in the period of January-August 2021 (a 6.4% reduction compared with the corresponding period of 2020) while 304.8 million used the subway (20.8% increase) and 388.8 million used trolleybuses (3.3% increase).

In addition, 0.3 million passengers used water transport during this period (more than double the number in the corresponding period of last year).

These figures do not include the Russian-annexed Crimea and Sevastopol and the non-government-controlled territories in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

As the CFTS portal reported previously, the number of passengers transported by Ukrainian transport companies reduced by 30.5% to 624 million in the period of January-March 2021, compared with the corresponding period of 2020. The number of passengers transported by rail (including suburban electric trains) totaled 17 million in this period (a 39.3% reduction compared with the same period of 2020) and the number transported by road totaled 258.7 million (32.6% reduction).
