The Verkhovna Rada adopted the draft law No. 4121, which creates a legal basis for local authorities to introduce electronic tickets in urban passenger transport, on Tuesday, 17 December.
For this bill voted 265 deputies needed at 226.
The advantage of electronic tickets is that they will enable local authorities to keep better records of passengers (including those who need transport benefits). That is, it will provide local authorities with a clear picture of passenger transportation by private bus companies and enable them to determine whether their fares are justified.
In addition, introduction of electronic tickets is expected to reduce waiting times for public transport at bus stops, which will improve passenger service.
