Russian attacks on Ukrainian port infrastructure in October 2024 caused USD 30-40 million worth of damage.
Ukraine's First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Taras Vysotskyi announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports, citing the Interfax-Ukraine news agency.
"It is difficult to give a final estimate because, unfortunately, new incidents continue to occur. Insurance companies are assessing the damages, especially the latest ones resulting from the intense attacks in early October. The assessment is ongoing, but it is already clear that we are talking about tens of millions of dollars. We have tentatively estimated the last attack at USD 30-40 million," Vysotskyi said.
According to Vysotskyi, total losses in the agricultural sector since the beginning of the war are estimated at USD 82 billion, and the losses of grain businesses at USD 500-600 million.
He said that he hoped that the government’s newly introduced war-risk insurance and the additional coverage provided by international private insurers would help address the current situation.
"Undoubtedly, every loss is documented and verified. The amount of the compensation owed by the aggressor has already reached hundreds of billions of dollars... We believe everything must be returned. We are documenting all these losses - every million, 10,000, 100,000, or 200,000 dollars - in line with all the requirements of international law. As a state, we will pursue compensation to the last hryvnia, especially regarding port infrastructure," Vysotskyi said.
