The Turkish Navy could help unblock Ukrainian seaports, which should benefit the Ukrainian economy.
Military expert Roman Svitan expressed this opinion on the Channel 24 television channel, the CFTS portal reports, citing the Obozrevatel publication.
"Turkish cruisers and submarines in the Black Sea can cover Odesa, Olvia, and the Mykolaiv ports, and this will all be within the framework of the Law of the Sea. If necessary, this can be done through the UN," the expert said.
According to Svitan, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is primarily looking out for his own interests and the interests of his country, which means it is currently beneficial for him to work with Europe because the Turkish economy is facing major problems, especially after the powerful earthquake that recently hit the country.
"Erdoğan can use his navy to restore justice under the Law of the Sea and provide cover for not only caravans but also our ports," the expert said.
"Metal, oil - we can transport a lot of things by sea. International law can be used to provide cover for this without negotiating with the terrorist about anything. Specifically, to provide cover and then halt the movement of all of Russia’s cargo around the world for ignoring the Law of the Sea, up to the point of seizing them for reparations and indemnity," he said.
Andrii Klymenko, the head of a monitoring team at the Black Sea Strategic Research Institute, recently expressed the view that three NATO countries - Romania, Bulgaria, and Turkey - could ensure the safety of navigation in the Black Sea.
