Ukraine has proposed that Azerbaijan launch a train on the route of the Silk Road in the direction of the Caspian Sea. Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister/Minister of Regional Development, Construction, Housing, and Utility Services Hennadii Zubkov and Azerbaijan’s First Deputy Prime Minister Yaqub Eyyubov discussed this issue in Baku on Thursday, 3 December, Vestnik Kavkaza reports.

"We propose discussing agreements between the railway administrations of China, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, and Ukraine on establishment of a single tariff for transportation of containers on transit and launch of the first test train on an agreed route in the direction of the Caspian Sea and the Silk Road," abc.az quoted Zubkov as saying.

According to him, a proposal from the Ukrainian Minister of Infrastructure to hold the relevant meeting of ministerial experts in the near future has been submitted to Azerbaijan’s transport minister for consideration.

"Ukraine considers cooperation with Azerbaijan in the transport sector as promising: in the aviation, rail, and road sectors," Zubkov said, noting that the country’s government was counting on support for participation of Ukrainian companies in infrastructure projects in Azerbaijan.

"Ukrainian construction companies have a number of competitive advantages. Unique engineering solutions, high-technology construction machinery, highly qualified personnel, and a reasonable cost of work. We can offer all these on the market of Azerbaijan," the deputy prime minister, adding that Ukraine sees Azerbaijan as a strategic partner and a major regional players.

In particular, according to him, Ukraine is interested in intensifying cooperation in the energy sphere, implementing joint projects, and stepping up bilateral cooperation in the military-technical and agricultural sectors.
