The Ukrposhta postal company processed and delivered 4.7 million kilograms of parcels to countries around the world in 2021, according to preliminary data. This represents a 27% increase compared with 2020.
Ukrposhta announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.
According to the statement, Ukrainians sent the largest numbers of parcels to the United States, Britain, the European Union, Canada, Australia, and Japan in 2021.
"Although 2021 was a very difficult year for international postal logistics because, unfortunately, passenger flights did not recover sufficiently, Ukrposhta was able to maintain its export growth, and it increased international parcel deliveries by almost a third last year. Thanks to our partners – Windrose Airlines – we continued our charter program to the United States, operating 96 direct charter cargo flights from Kyiv to the New York airport. Partnerships with 15 passenger airlines enabled us to make deliveries to other destinations," said Yulia Pavlenko, director of the company's International Operations Department.
According to the statement, flights to the United States are operated for Ukrposhta on aircraft of various configurations under the charter program with Windrose Airlines. This ensures the delivery of 70% of export parcels without reloading at transit airports.
"The charter program complements the opportunities for transportation of parcels on passenger flights. Ukrposhta currently has partnerships with leading airlines, including UIA, Turkish Airlines, LOT, KLM, Lufthansa, and AirBaltic," the company said.
The company sends parcels abroad through four airports (the Boryspil, Kyiv, Lviv, and Odesa airports). They handle up to 30 flights with export shipments every day.
