The State Railway Administration (Ukrzaliznytsia) has written to the Russian Railways company, calling on it to stop working with the Donetsk railway.

"In connection with the anti-terrorist operation in eastern Ukraine, in order to avoid financial and operational differences that may affect the safety and security of transportation, and considering the fact that the Donetsk railway cannot address operational issues, all issues and contracts related to the economic, financial, and operational activities of the Donetsk railway should be concluded directly through Ukrzaliznytsia," Ukrzaliznytsia said in the letter signed by its acting General Director Maksym Blank and addressed to the Russian Railways’ head Vladimir Yakunin, the text of which the CFTS obtained.

In the document, Ukrzaliznytsia also calls on the Russian Railways to consider all its correspondence with the Donetsk railways illegitimate.

As reported, Blank threatened to break off cooperation with the Russian Railways at a press conference on January 22. "If we see that the Russian Railways is cooperating with militants, we will abandon all cooperation with the Russian Railways," Blank said. He was commenting on information that militants in the occupied territories (the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Luhansk People’s Republic) are seeking to establish railway links with Russia.
