The head of the Ukrainian Railways joint-stock company (Ukrzaliznytsia), Yevhen Liaschenko, has instructed the relevant production units to begin preparations for the construction of passenger railcars at Ukrzaliznytsia's own facilities.
Ukrzaliznytsia board member Yevhen Shramko announced this in an interview with the Delo.ua publication, the CFTS portal reports.
"Board Chairman Yevhen Liaschenko has already set the task of starting the preparation of our plants for the construction of new passenger railcars. This will be the next step after the mastering of the overhaul of railcars, which will allow us to upgrade and scale our fleet," Shramko said.
He added that Ukrzaliznytsia will overhaul railcars at four plants. In addition to PJSC Kyiv Electric Railcar Repair Plant, about which the CFTS portal has already reported, the plants are the Darnytskyi railcar repair plant, the Refrigerator Company, and the Stryi railcar repair plant.
"We are now additionally preparing the site, technology, and tools, and launching a program for the purchase of materials. We plan to repair four railcars this year (one at each enterprise)," the Ukrzaliznytsia board member said.
As the CFTS portal reported earlier, the Kyiv Electric Railcar Repair Plant also plans to begin repairing Pesa diesel trains.
