The State Railway Administration (Ukrzaliznytsia) reduced freight transportation by 9.6% to 329.5 million tons in the period of January-October, compared with the corresponding period of last year, the press service of Ukrzaliznytsia has announced.
Ukrzaliznytsia transported 157 million tons of domestic freight (-17.8% compared with the corresponding period of last year), 29.4 million tons of import freight (+2.1%), more than 118 million tons of export freight (+0.5%), and almost 24.4 million tons of transit freight (-12.9%).
In terms of general cargo volumes, Ukrzaliznytsia increased transportation of grain and grain crops (+22.1%) and timber (+2.3%) and reduced transportation of other cargo: bituminous coal (-16.8%), crude oil and petroleum products (-13.7 %), iron and manganese ores (-2%), and ferrous metals (-9.5%).
Domestically, Ukrzaliznytsia increased transportation of grain (+6.3%) and cars (+153.9%) and reduced transportation of other goods: bituminous coal (-22.4%), crude oil and petroleum products (-34%), iron and manganese ores (-13.5%), chemicals (-14.5%), and ferrous metals (-28.6%).
The increase in transportation of export goods was due to increases in transportation of crude oil and petroleum products (+17.3%), ferrous metals (+8.6%), timber (+12.7%), and grain and grain crops (+23.3%).
Among import goods, transportation volumes remained unchanged or increased: bituminous coal (+1.1%), crude oil and petroleum products (+20%), iron and manganese ores (+8.4%), chemical and mineral fertilizers (+83.8%), coke (+5.9%), grain and grain crops (+6.7%), and salt (+23.8%).
There were positive dynamics in the transportation of transit goods: ferrous metals (+23.8%), grain and grain crops (+117.8%).
