The Ukrainian Railways joint-stock company (Ukrzaliznytsia) performed routine repairs of over 400 kilometers of railroad tracks in the first five months of 2023. The most active repair work is taking place in the Lviv, Kyiv, and Odesa regions.
Ukrzaliznytsia announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.
"Despite the war, we must maintain the infrastructure in good condition and catch up on overdue repairs as much as possible. This is primarily about ensuring the safety and speed of passenger and freight transportation. In total, we plan to repair 1,300 kilometers of tracks this year. We have already performed a third. We are also ready to rebuild the infrastructure in the territories that will be liberated after the Ukrainian army's counteroffensive," Ukrzaliznytsia’s Board Chairman Yevhen Liaschenko said.
In total, railroad workers performed moderate repairs on 227.7 kilometers of railroad tracks and major repairs on 175.8 kilometers in January-May 2023.
In particular, Ukrzaliznytsia has completed major track repair works on the Svaliava - Volchyi railroad stretch and the Hlynna-Navaria station in the Lviv region, as well as on the Motovylivka - Vasylkiv railroad section near Kyiv.
"Track overhaul is actively underway in the Liuboml - Matseev section in the Lviv region, the Vilnohirsk - Yerastivka section in the Dnipropetrovsk region, and the Podilsk - Chubivka section in the Odesa region," Ukrzaliznytsia said in the statement.
Ukrzaliznytsia will complete the work in these areas in June-July.
Ukrzaliznytsia repaired 1,094 kilometers of tracks in 2022, including medium repairs on 625.1 kilometers and major repairs on 468.9 kilometers.
