The Ukrainian Railways joint-stock company (Ukrzaliznytsia) intends to build European-sized prototype grain hopper cars.

Ukrzaliznytsia board member Yevhen Shramko announced this in an interview with the Delo.ua publication, the CFTS portal reports.

According to him, the company has mastered the production of flatcars, grain hopper cars, and dump cars.

"We have a program to build 50 grain hopper cars, 50 dump cars, and 427 flatcars," Shramko said.

He added that the company also plans to build a European-size prototype grain hopper car capable of operating on the 1435-millimeter track gauge.

As the CFTS portal reported earlier, Ukrzaliznytsia’s head Yevhen Liaschenko has instructed the relevant production units to begin preparations for the construction of passenger railcars at Ukrzaliznytsia's own facilities. This will be the next step after the mastering of the overhaul of railcars. It will enable the company to upgrade and scale its fleet.

Ukrzaliznytsia will overhaul railcars at four plants. In addition to PJSC Kyiv Electric Railcar Repair Plant, about which the CFTS portal has already reported, the plants are the Darnytskyi railcar repair plant, the Refrigerator Company, and the Stryi railcar repair plant.
