The Ukrainian Railways joint-stock company (Ukrzaliznytsia) noted a positive dynamic in the loading of freight cars and the transportation of freight in general and agricultural products in particular at the beginning of 2023.

This was stated during an online meeting with representatives of the grain transport market, the CFTS portal reports.

"We see that the economy is gradually coming to life, and we are observing a general increase in the freight loading volume in the rail networks. We have been loading over 320,000 tons per day in the last few days," said Valerii Tkachov, the deputy director of Ukrzaliznytsia’s department of commercial operations.

In particular, according to Ukrzaliznytsia statistics, the freight loading volume in the rail network was 334,000 tons on 11 January.

The grain loading volume was uneven during the week, averaging 77,000 tons daily.

However, the loading volumes of agricultural products in some places were close to last year's volumes, and the first million tons of grain of 2023 have already been exported by rail.

"In the first 11 days, 1,700,000 tons of export grain cargoes were transported. At the same time, 738,000 tons were exported through seaports and 332,000 tons through western border crossings," Tkachov said.

He added that about 3 million tons of grain would be transported by rail by the end of this month if this pace is maintained.
