A container train carrying 50 containers of cargo from the Chinese city of Guangzhou arrived at the Chornomorska train station in Odesa on 19 June.

The Ukrainian Railways joint-stock company (Ukrzaliznytsia) announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports .

According to the statement, these are the first containers to be delivered from China along this route.

"Transport links between the East and the West have always been important ... to the operations of the economies of all countries," the statement said.

Ukrzaliznytsia also said that the company is actively involved in the development of such transport links and that it is developing new routes for delivery of goods from China to Europe because Ukraine’s transit capabilities have a strong potential for growth.

The Uni Laman Group, a Ukrainian logistics company, initiated and organized the project with the help of the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the Guangdong province and Ukraine’s Consulate General in Guangzhou.

"The operation of the train will ensure uninterrupted deliveries of goods from China to Ukraine in 20 days, compared with 40 days if delivered by sea," the Uni Laman Group said.

The train will be processed at the TIS container terminal at the Pivdennyi seaport.

In total, 13 container trains have already arrived in Ukraine from China and 67 Chinese trains have traveled through Ukraine on transit since the beginning of this year.

As previously reported, direct container trains from China to Ukraine began operating in June 2020.
