The Kryukov Railcar Building Works (Kremenchug, Poltava region) has delivered two EKr1 high-speed, inter-regional trains to the State Railway Administration (Ukrzaliznytsia), the Interfax Ukraine news agency reports, citing the press service of the manufacturer.

"Two high-speed passenger trains were sent to Kiev yesterday evening, and they can begin operation tomorrow,” the press service said, adding that the issue of payment for the delivered trains has not been completely solved.

As reported, in March last year, the Cabinet of Ministers ordered purchase of four electric trains from the Kryukov Railcar Building Works by 2015. Two of the four trains have now been built, but Ukrzaliznytsia has been unable to buy or take delivery of the trains via another financial scheme for one year now and launch them into operation on routes.

The EKr1 trains consist of nine railcars, and they can reach speeds of 160-200 km/h. The electric trains have first-, second- and tourist-class railcars, and they are capable of carrying 609 passengers.

The EKr1 train will embark on its first trip on Thursday, June 19, from Kiev to Lviv. In addition, sale of tickets for the Kiev-Odessa route, on which the trains will also be operated, has already begun
