Russian trucking companies increased their international transport volume in 2022 despite Western sanctions and restrictions.

According to estimates by one of the major automobile exchanges in Russia, the volume of transportation of import goods increased by 41%.

Russian truckers’ freight transport volumes on European routes fell significantly in 2022, but they compensated for their losses in the second half of the year, primarily thanks to China and Turkey, the CFTS portal reports, citing the Kommersant publication.

The volumes of orders for transportation import goods from Belarus and Kazakhstan increased by 34% and 109%, respectively, in 2022. The volumes of orders for transportation of import goods from Azerbaijan increased by 286%, Armenia by 265%, Turkey by 244%, and Iran by 204%.

On European routes, the volumes of transportation of goods from Serbia and Spain did not increase significantly, while the volumes of transportation of goods from Italy, Lithuania, France, and Poland reduced by approximately 15%. The volumes of transportation of goods from Germany to Russia fell by 23% and from Finland to Russia by 59%.

Regarding exports from the Russian Federation, the losses of Russian carriers on the European route were more significant. The volume of orders for cargo transportation to Germany, Italy, Finland, Latvia, Estonia, and Romania almost halved. According to the publication, the volume of orders for cargo transportation to Poland and Lithuania remained unchanged and the volume of orders for transportation of cargo to the Czech Republic increased by 38%.

The volumes of cargo transportation to Belarus and Kazakhstan fell by 4% and 3%, respectively. The volumes of cargo transportation to Iran increased by 323% and Turkey by 187% while the volumes of orders for the transportation of goods to China, Georgia, and Armenia, approximately doubled, according to Russian analysts. Russian truckers also launched new transport routes to India.
