The state automobile road agency (Ukravtodor) estimates the damage caused by the fighting in eastern Ukraine at more than UAH 2.15 billion, according to a press release from the agency.
"This amount is approximate because a full inspection has been performed only in the areas liberated from terrorists. The amounts of destruction in the places where combat operations are still taking place have not yet been determined because of the threat to the lives of road workers," the press service quoted Ukravtodor’s head Serhii Pidhainyi as saying.
According to him, 962 kilometers of public roads have suffered various degrees of damage, including approximately 250.5 kilometers in the Donetsk region and over 711.5 kilometers in the Lugansk region.
In addition, 20 bridges and viaducts with a total length of 2,101 meters have been damaged. According to preliminary data, the cost of rebuilding the infrastructure will be UAH 735.1 million in the Donetsk region and UAH 1.423 billion in the Lugansk region.
According to Pidhainyi, links to the population centers that were cut off as a result of destruction of bridges is being established with the help of pontoon ferries.
