The Ukrzaliznytsia public railway company’s head Wojciech Balczun has signed memoranda of cooperation with the companies Siemens (Germany) and Pesa Bydgoszcz (Poland). The signing ceremony took place during the InnoTrans 2016 international trade fair for transport technology in Berlin, Ukrzaliznytsia announced.

The memorandum with the German company should serve as the basis for further cooperation, particularly possible conclusion of contracts for projects for supply of rolling stock and equipment for it and equipment and systems for railway infrastructure, provision of technical services, as well as for establishment of joint ventures. Several meetings between experts from Ukrzaliznytsia and Siemens preceded the signing of the document. At the last of these meetings, which took place in July this year, a decision was made to prepare and sign an agreement of intent to cooperate between the two parties.

Balczun also signed a memorandum of cooperation with Pesa Bydgoszcz, which is Poland's largest rolling stock manufacturer. According to the document, the possible areas of cooperation include production and modernization of rolling stock, including locomotives, diesel and electric traction vehicles, and passenger railcars. Ukrzaliznytsia currently operates 11 rail buses and two-car diesel trains manufactured by Pesa Bydgoszcz.

As CFTS previously reported, Ukrzaliznytsia recently signed memoranda with a number of foreign companies, including Bombardier (Canada), General Electric (United States), NEWAG and PKP Energetyka (Poland).
