Ukrainian railways transported 66,170 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units) of containers on container and combined trains (import, export, transit, and domestic) in the period of January-September. This is 12.5% more than the 58,800 TEU that was transported the year before, the press service of the State Railway Administration (Ukrzaliznytsia) announced.
According to the press service, 16,036 containers were transported on the Nikopol-Ilyichevsk-Nikopol route (2.4 times more than the number transported in the same period of last year), 10,164 on Slovakia (Kosice)-Russia (Perspecktiva) trains, and 8,838 on Romania-Russia (Moscow)-Romania trains (+75.6%).
In addition, 7,916 containers (4.1 times more) were transported on the Romania-Tolyatti-Romania route. Combined trains transported the following numbers of containers: Viking 2,827; Land Bridge (China-Hungary) 4,572 (+15%); Dneprovets (Odessa, Dnepropetrovsk) 3,846; Khreschatyk (Kiev-Odessa) 4,494 (+ 11%); Poland-Ukraine (Izov-Mogilev-Podolsky)-Moldova (Rybnitsa) 2,376; ZUBR 1,508; Podolie (Odessa-Khmelnitsky) 1,735.
Fourteen container trains currently operate in Ukraine. Containers transported on container trains account for 40% of the total volume of containers transported through Ukraine.
