As part of its RELINC project, the Ukrainian Railways joint-stock company (Ukrzaliznytsia) has expanded its fleet with 200 flatcars designed for transporting oversized containers. These newly produced flatcars are now used for intermodal transportation between Ukraine and the European Union.
Ukrzaliznytsia announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.
All the flatcars were manufactured at Ukrzaliznytsia's production facilities in Ukraine.
"In addition to the expansion of our fleet, the wagon repair shop received additional work, generated revenue, and preserved jobs. Thanks to these new wagons, the company will be able to transport at least 300,000 tons of cargo annually," the statement said.
The wagons were provided to Ukrzaliznytsia as part of the Repairing Essential Logistics Infrastructure & Network Connectivity (RELINC) project, which is managed by the World Bank and funded by the multi-donor Ukraine Relief, Recovery, Reconstruction, and Reform Trust Fund (URTF). A Project Implementation Unit was established in the Corporate Finance Department of Ukrzaliznytsia.
The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) and independent technical experts jointly conducted the technical inspection and acceptance of the flatcars, confirming that flatcars manufactured by Ukrzaliznytsia meet Ukrainian standards and United Nations requirements.
