The Ukrainian Railways joint-stock company (Ukrzaliznytsia) transported 117.8 million tons of cargo in the first nine months of 2022, which is 111.9 million tons less than the 229.7 million tons it transported the same period of 2021.

Ukrzaliznytsia stated this in a presentation, the CFTS portal reports.

We should note that the volume of rail freight transportation has fallen sharply since March because of the war in Ukraine.

According to information from the company, export freight accounted for 39% of the total volume of the freight that was transported by rail in the first nine months of this year, import freight 9%, and transit freight 2%. Freight transported internally accounted for 50%.

In terms of freight classification, grain accounted for 29% of the total volume of the freight that was transported by rail in the first nine months of this year, coal 19%, construction materials 16%, iron ore 13%, ferrous metals 6%, and petroleum products 5%.

As the CFTS portal reported earlier, 314 million tons of cargo were transported by rail in the entire 2021.
