Yevhen Dykhne, a former director of organization of passenger transport at the State Railway Administration (Ukrzaliznytsia), has been appointed as the acting general director of the Boryspil international airport. The Interfax Ukraine news agency reported this, citing a source in the press service of the Ministry of Infrastructure.

The relevant decision was approved by the ministry’s order No. 180-o dated 19 September 2014.

Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Petro Pinkas presented Dykhne to employees of the airport on 22 September.

Thos order also relieved Serhii Hombolevskyi of the post of general director of the airport by mutual consent, following Hombolevskyi’s decision to terminate his contract.

According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, Pinkas thanked Hombolevskyi for his work as the general director of the airport at a difficult time for the country.

As reported earlier, Prime Minister Arsenii Yatseniuk instructed Minister of Infrastructure Maksym Burbak on September 17 to determine whether Hombolevskyi was fit to hold the post of general director of the airport. Yatseniuk demanded an investigation to determine whether a competition for the right to provide taxi services was organized legally. Hombolevskyi resigned the next day.

The state-owned Boryspil international airport is the largest airport in Ukraine. It accounts for more than 50% of the passenger traffic in the country. It is a member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA). More than 50 airlines perform regular flights from the airport, operating on more than 100 routes worldwide. The Boryspil airport is the only Ukrainian airport that handles long-haul flights.
