The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has begun spelling the name of the Ukrainian capital as Kyiv instead of Kiev.
This was announced on the Ukrainian Foreign Affairs Ministry’s #CorrectUA official Twitter campaign account, the CFTS portal reports.
"Thanks to all airports and carriers for #KyivNotKiev! Especially grateful to IATA for deciding to use the correct name of the Ukrainian capital Kyiv," the Foreign Affairs Ministry said.
According to the ministry, the IATA’s decision will help to end the international use of the “Kiev” spelling.
As the CFTS portal reported, many foreign airports have begun switching to the Ukrainian transliteration of the Ukrainian capital’s name. For example, Turkey’s new Istanbul Airport began using the Kyiv spelling in April.
