The production of freight cars by Ukrainian railcar manufacturers reduced by 31.2% to 1,948 in 2021, compared with the previous year, the CFTS portal reports.

According to the MMC Center, the top ten railcar manufacturers in Ukraine in 2021 included the Kryukov Carriage Works (1,013 railcars), Dniprovahonmash (461), OMZ Karpaty (300), the Popasna railcar repair plant (68), Azovvagon (36), the Diesel Plant (19), the Stryi railcar repair plant (5), Poltavahon (4), the Paniutynskyi railcar repair plant (4), and the Darnytskyi railcar repair plant (2).

"Our factories were building 50,000 railcars per year just 10 years ago, which contributed USD 3 billion to the country’s GDP. Only 1,900 railcars worth a total of USD 100 million were built last year. We have dropped 30-fold. Yes, the lion's share of our railcars was built for Russia 10 years ago. However, even in 2018-2019, Ukraine built more than 10,000 railcars per year. Our railcars are sold from the Baltic countries to Iran, so we can still do without the Russian market," said Oleksandr Kamyshin, the board chairman of the Ukrainian Railways joint-stock company (Ukrzaliznytsia).

As the CFTS portal reported earlier, the production of freight cars in Ukraine reduced by almost 50% in the first five months of 2021.
