The Russian Federation has lost 234 aircraft, 15 ships, and almost 2,000 tanks since the beginning of the war in Ukraine.

The CFTS portal reported this, citing the Forbes Ukraine publication.

Russia has lost 12,142 pieces of equipment worth USD 16.56 billion, excluding missiles, in the six months since the beginning of the war.

The Russian army’s biggest loss was the Russian Black Sea Fleet’s flagship, the Moskva missile cruiser worth USD 750 million. Ukrainian Neptune missiles struck the Moskva missile cruiser on 13 April, and it sank the next day.

In addition to the Moskva missile cruiser, Ukraine destroyed Russian equipment and vessels worth USD 165 million on Snake Island and in the surrounding waters. They include eight Thor, Shield, and Strela anti-aircraft systems worth a total of more than USD 100 million.

Before the sinking of the Moskva missile cruiser, Russia’s most expensive loss was a large IL-76 amphibious assault plane worth USD 86 million, which Ukrainian air defense forces shot down over Vasylkiv (Kyiv region) at the end of February.

The third most expensive was the Saratov amphibious assault ship worth USD 75 million. The Ukrainian army attacked the ship in the port of occupied Berdiansk, where it was delivering military equipment.

The explosions at the Saky military airfield in the Crimea on 9 August destroyed nine Russian military aircraft. This was the biggest loss of Russian military aviation in a single day, not only during the war in Ukraine but also since the Second World War.

The destroyed aircraft include Su-30SM fighters and Su-24MR reconnaissance aircraft worth approximately USD 230 million. In total, the Russian Federation has lost 234 aircraft worth USD 5.3 billion or 32.1% of the occupying army’s total losses.
